Paper - A Recyclable and Renewable Resource.

As a paper distributor and an online business we have a unique take on the environmental debate that happens when comparing Print and Paper for marketing and packaging needs versus using a digital medium.

With some help with our friends at Two Sides we can help with the confusion.  There are several factors to consider.

The Unseen E-Waste Factor

How Paper is Made

Many people argue that email and other forms of digital communication are better for the environment.

The challenge is that the natural resources needed to produce and run all of the laptops, phones, computer networks, etc. is having a huge impact on the environment.

Did you know?

  • In 2014 over 41 million tons of e-waste was created.  That is just all of the computers, phones, and other electronic items that were discarded by its owners.
  • It takes 500 pounds of fossil fuel, 50 pounds of chemicals and 360 gallons of water to produce one computer and monitor.
  • Only 3% of all mobile phones will be recycled

Print and Paper have a Great Eco Story to Tell

Many years ago, the print industry embraced sustainable and responsible forestry, paper production and printing, to ensure that, in a world of scarce resources, print and paper's unique recyclable and renewable qualities can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Fast Facts:

  • In 2012 over 65% of paper used in the United States was recycled
  • The forest products industry is a leader in the production of renewable energy
  • Over the last six decades, the net total U.S. forest area has increased by over 3% and the net volume of trees on timberland has increased by 58%
  • 89% of pulpwood for paper comes from private land. The income landowners receive for trees grown on their land encourages them to maintain, sustainably manage and renew this valuable resource.
